adw12 is being shut down!

I decided that there are far too many reasons to shut down this blog than to keep it up. The written word is impersonal, generally controversial, and relies too much on language to communicate complex ideas well. I use this blog to stay connected to people I know personally, when staying in touch through real life is so much better, authentic, and worthwhile. This blog is egocentric, as all of its posts are written by me. This blog has been used in exchange for real conversations and real interaction with people. This blog jades my actual relationships by playing a silent and asynchronous communication role. Finally, it sometimes causes me stress and wastes my time, and regardless of how small a percentage of time that is, that is a complete waste. So, in admiracion of all of you who have already shut down your blog, adw12 is following suit. And to the best of my knowledge, "shutting down" on xanga means that all content will be lost. So, if you want to grab any content before it's gone, do it while you have the chance!

By the way Shane Claiborne, the author of The Irresistible Revolution, is coming to speak in Canton on April 1st, a Sunday afternoon.

Click here (and click on April) to see more details. Promo for the specific event is available here.

I'm planning on going. Feel free to join me!

Taking a bit of a reprieve. I half liked where it was going... start pegging the meter on the offensiveness scale, and you will undoubtedly spark meaningful conversations in real life. So, that was definitely a positive side effect. In addition, I probably sparked numerous conversation for which I was never present, which I am absolutely cool with.

On the other hand, I half didn't like it. It was, after all, getting pretty offensive. I suppose I can only do the edgy thing for so long. So, at least for a bit, I am on break.

I had a great weekend... saw a lot of people... (this is already getting boring... haha). Anyway, thanks for everyone who made it excellent: Parents, Levi, Anne, Sara, Oma, Deidre, Molly, EJ, Siegfried, and the 100+ people who were mixing at all the various parties.

Questions I am currently pondering:

1. Bruderhof road trip on March 10?

2. How to thank the people in my life

3. Who was Jesus before he was 30 years old?

4. IF the bible wasn't reliably compiled, what implications would that have?

5. mmm... that fair-trade, organic carrot cake that took 3 hours to make was amazing... mmm...

6. Do Muslims have better reverance for God than I have?

7. The new White Licorice is off da hook.

8. Are people who make LGBT choices "sinning" or just outside of my socialized moral framework?

9. What exactly happens when people die?

10. Why does the daily prayer given to us by Jesus include the phrase, "Forgive us our sins."

11. Does being "saved" mean you are "going to heaven"?

12. Is God good, as we speak or conceive of good?

13. Is God love, as we speak or conceive of love?

Ahh. Today is it. Here, an overview of adw12's ultimate day.

Wake late, but not too late, at 9:30.

Speaking of government...
I Samuel 8:10-21
Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the Israelites who were asking him for a king. He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the Lord will not answer you in that day."

But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles."

When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. The Lord answered, "Listen to them and give them a king."

(check out this post's comments for a continuing discussion)

I am starting to offend people. Dangit. Dangit!

This is not the point. At all.

I am starting to talk about the things people really care about.

Like money.

Way too many people have reacted negatively to what little I have said.

I think I need to just be quiet.

It would be great to have someone to talk with about these things.

Although it's a glorious journey for me, apparently it doesn't sound that great to most people.

So yeah. Mouth closed.

Focus on love... but don't talk about all of it, just focus on the immediate, relational side.

Which is huge, don't get me wrong. Huge.

But don't talk about slaves in Ecuador. Don't talk about people dying in Iraq.  Shh.

Focus on what our eyes can see.

I mean, yeah, I can do that. I know it all too well.

It just sucks.

[sigh]

Alright, I will. I will be quiet. Here I go.  Here is the new manifesto.

Love.  Love the people you know personally.
